In Kindergarten we are building a community of readers! Readers will understand that they are part of a learning community and will find out why readers read. Throughout the year, students will discover how to become GREAT readers!
Some qualities of a great reader include:
*choosing books of interest
*caring for and handling books
*reading using quiet voices
*reading with a partner
*re-reading favorite books
Tips to becoming a great reader include:
*learning to shop for books and keep a book baggie
*looking at pictures for clues
*looking at words for clues using beginning sounds
*knowing the difference between letters and words
*knowing to look for "popcorn words" when reading
*re-reading favorite books
