LLI Students:

Some students that missed their Google Hangout on Monday are rescheduled to meet with me this morning.  Check your Google Classroom for the link!

GROUP A

Choose a familiar story in your bag to read as a warm up.

Today you will be reading a new story.  Find Papa’s Birthday in your bag.

We’ve read books in this series before, so we know Sam, Jesse and Papa.  In this story, it is Papa’s birthday and the boys want to give him a present that he will love.

Turn to pages 2 and 3 to see what Jesse is doing.

Look on page 4.  Sam says “Shh!” He doesn’t want Papa to hear him and Jesse.

On page 5, Jesse has an idea for the present.  What is his idea?

Turn to page 6.  Sam says a rocket costs too much and he has a different idea.  What is Sam’s idea? He says, “I’d like to get him a race car.” Look at the word I’d.  I’d is a short way to say “I would”. Run your finger under and read it.

Turn to page 8.  What are the boys doing? They are looking at their money and they have two dimes, a penny and a quarter.  That’s not much.

Turn to pages 12 and 13.

The boys thought of some more ideas but they all cost too much.  Even a card costs too much. Look at the word even. You hear ‘e’ first in even.Run your finger under and read it. Now, turn back to the beginning and read Papa’s Birthday.  You will see what Sam and Jesse made and you will find out what Papa thinks.

When you are finished reading, tell someone at home the important parts of the story.

GROUP B

Choose a familiar story in your bag to read as a warm up.  Today you will be reading a new story.  Find A Surprise for Mom in your book bag.

In this book, a boy tells the story of how he and Dad made a surprise for Mom.

Turn to page 2. What are the boy and his dad doing?  And what are they getting?

Turn to page 6 to see what they got at the market.

Now turn to page 9.  What do you think the boy and his dad are going to make for mom?

Turn to pages 14 and 15.  The boy says he put peppers in the big pot.  Then what did Dad put in? Say then. Then starts with two letters t and h to make a sound just like the beginning of the, which also starts with th.

Soon the soup was hot. Find soon. Run your finger under it and read it.

Turn back to the beginning and read to find out if mom liked the surprise.
