Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

After a thorough search, comprised of the valuable contributions from the Input Survey and the many hours dedicated by the TBD Faculty, Administrative, and Board Committees, I am pleased to inform the Old Tappan community that Ms. Kathleen Boyce was unanimously approved as the new T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School Principal by the Board of Education at its meeting of 15 July 2019. Ms. Boyce will be joining our District with 18 years of experience in the field of education, after serving as a middle school teacher, an elementary school teacher, and an elementary school assistant principal. Ms. Boyce's understanding of elementary education and child development are underscored only by her warmth and smile.

Ms. Boyce earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from The College of Charleston and her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Rider University. After completing her student teaching in South Carolina, Ms. Boyce was hired as a middle school Social Studies teacher. In 2005, Ms. Boyce moved to New Jersey and assumed the position of Elementary School Classroom Teacher in the South Brunswick School District, where she taught Grades 3 and 4. In the same school district, she also served as the Instructional Support Teacher for Grades 2, 3, 4, and 5. Ms. Boyce was then promoted within the South Brunswick School District, where for the past three years, she has been serving as an Assistant Principal across two elementary schools. As an Assistant Principal, she has worked closely with the elementary school principals, teachers, and aides to facilitate nurturing and safe environments to foster learning for all students and adults. Additionally, Ms. Boyce has worked with the children to engage them in stimulating instructional experiences, ultimately, to create age-appropriate school memories.

Ms. Boyce's start date as Principal of TBD is being solidified, as we await an official release date from her current district. However, Ms. Boyce is expected to begin in Old Tappan no later than 1 September 2019 and will be coming to spend a little time in TBD during the summer months.

Once Ms. Boyce arrives and gets settled, we will coordinate a Meet & Greet for families.

Thank you for your continuous support, as we strengthen our District and embrace our core values of community, curiosity, courage, creativity, and commitment.

Respectfully,
Danielle M. Da Giau, Ed.D.
