Making Connections
A simple, yet powerful, way to promote comprehension is to ask readers to make a connection to the text they've listened to or read.  Try modeling this for your child at home by using one the following sentence stems:

 * This story made me think of something from my own life!
   I can make a text to self connection; one time I ....

 * This story made me think of another story I've read;
   I can make a text to story connection...

 * This story made me think of something in the world;
   I can make a text to world connection...
