Good morning! Happy 1st day of Spring!

Below are your e-learning activities for today:
Please note that this can be spread throughout the day and is not meant to be done in one sitting or in any particular order.

You can sing Good morning to your family and ask how they are. Then sing the March song and the Thursday song.

What kind of weather is it today?  Does it feel cooler or warmer than yesterday?  Would you say it is a "lion" or a "lamb" day?

KT News - No need to print it out ... just read it and see if you can find these words...

will - 1
have - 2
of - 1
go- 2
see - 1

Reading Workshop-
Set a timer for 8 minutes.  Read the books in your book pouch.  Remember to use your reading strategies to help sound out unknown words.  Use your pictures and words (sounds) to help too.  If you tried and are still stuck on a word please ask for help.

Find and write three popcorn words you read today.

Who is your favorite character in one of your books?  Why did you like that character? (was he/she nice, funny, do something you like to do) Keep reflecting on any stories you read and making connections (to you or another book)
Reflection - i.e.- I liked "Bob" because he helped his friends.
Connection - i.e. "Bob" helped his friends and once my friend Joe helped me when I fell down on the playground.

*Note - some of the early emergent books - level A/B and possibly C's are sometimes difficult to do this b/c they aren't meaty enough stories, if this is the case ... just practice these routines when you read at night to your child or when they do a read a loud online.  It's good to get them talking about books.  We also make predictions all the time during read alouds.  What do you think will happen next? at the end? etc..

Go on Raz Kids and read for at least 10-15 minutes.  Remember to first listen to the story, then read the story and finally take the quiz.  See if you can record a story for me today.  There will be a record button at the top of the book.  Click it and read the story out loud.  I'm not sure if there is a send button but I think I will get it either way.  Could you try and I'll let you know if I get it.  Only do one book for now until I know.  *Caution - Tell your child to let you know that he/she is recording a story b/c I will hear everything else going on in your house...LOL

Writing Workshop-
Write a friendly letter to a ME. Think about what you would like to say.   Use 1 telling sentence with a period and one asking sentence with a question mark. Use your word list ring like a word wall to help you write words we have learned. Pound out (break into syllables) bigger words. Try your best to sound out words by yourself like we do in class. Take a picture and send to me and I will write you back.

I put a link on my homepage (click on my name above) of samples of telling and asking questions to help you.

Math -
*Log into Happy Numbers and try it out for me using the password I sent you yesterday.  The link is under my Useful Website tab. (To get back to my home page click on my name above)

*You can use your counters and the workmat to make "Ways to Make 10"  Take your chips, put them in a cup and toss.  Lay them out on the workmat.  It is a good idea to sort them on the mat by color.  What two numbers make 10?  Use a dry erase marker to write the numbers at the bottom - 4 and 6 makes 10
See how neatly you can make your numbers.  Remember most numbers begin at "smiley" (the left) 8 starts in the center and 9 is the "naughty" number and starts on the right.  Continuing to do so will help you not make them backwards.

The watch Number Pairs to 10 video on my Learning Videos page.

*Today is day 120 (it's a red link day - we now have 12 sets of 10)- it's counting time - find someone or more than one person and make counting circle - you always start - you may start with number 1 or any number you choose and count to see who will get to today's number -120.  Then you can play again and count by 10's.

Literacy -
Phonics -
What sound does /Ll/ say? Name 3 things that begin with Ll.
What sound does /Oo/ say?  Name 3 things that begin with Oo.
What sound does /Jj/ say? Name 3 things that begin with Jj.
If you printed the alphabet cards or the chart ... you can practice all sounds like we do everyday.

Word Building -
Get a paper from your folder (with the numbers listed to 5 and cut it in half- you only need one side).  Listen to these words and get ready to pound and write them for me...Remember to write neatly and think about your letters (i.e.- letter b is first a bat and then a ball, d is a magic c letter, and your g and p should break the rule and go below the line, m and h are diver letters) A parent will say these words to you...

1. jot
2. dad

3. nap
4. dig
5. log

*On the back (hold paper long ways now) you will write this sentence.  Listen closely and pound it out.
    I see a man and a pig.

(Your child should repeat it and pound each word and then write)  When finished ask, Did you start with an uppercase letter? Did you have a period at the end. Do you have spaces between your words?  Did you underline your RED words in red crayon/marker?
Feel free to write your own copy and put side by side to compare with your child to help him/her correct any mistakes. Or, say... look at this one... the word was log...try again (enunciate the sound that needs to be fixed)

Pick any two literacy learning videos on the Learning Videos tab to watch.

Sight Words -
Open the sight word slideshow and read each word.  Stop if it gets tricky.

Pick two or three words and tell someone a sentence (orally).  How many words are in your sentence?  Count it out on your fingers.

Red Words -
Did you hang up your Red Word chart? Grab a wooden spoon or spatula from the kitchen and read and "load" and tap your red words. Pick 2-3 and practice them on your white board with the red marker.  Practice writing them 3x each
the
the
the

Then erase and see if you can remember how to write it w/o looking at your chart.  Practice the trickier ones... his, has, was

Science/Social Studies/Health -
Happy Spring!
Draw a picture showing what you know about spring after watching the video.

Today we have ART.  Go to Mrs. Clark's webpage please.

Go to my Instagram and see my post... Find some sidewalk chalk, go outside (today and/or tomorrow-weather permitting) and draw some pictures to me or your friends and send me a photo.  I  will post them at the end of each day.

I hope you have a great day.  I know you will have some days that are better than others.  Sometimes it's OK to stop and just go unwind.  Make time to laugh and explore the outdoors with your family.  Hang in there and keep trying to be as positive as you can for your child(ren).  Squeeze them a little extra for me.  xo
