Personal Information Practice:
** At this time of the school year, preschoolers often start to learn some important personal information. I encourage you to take this time to help your children learn the following:**
- last name
- home phone number
(Use paper plates on the wall to mimic a phone dial pad)
- home address
(Sing address to a popular tune)
Outdoor Play/Gross Motor Activities:
Practice dribbling a ball. Count how many times you can dribble it up and down
Practice balancing with different body parts. How Long can you stand on 1 foot? 2 knees? On your knees and elbows? On your bottom without anything touching the floor?
Blow up a Balloon. How many hits/ kicks can you keep it up without falling?
When outdoors, place a ball on the ground. Kick it as hard as you can. Count how many steps it takes to get to the ball.
Practice jumping with a jump rope. Count each time you can jump over the rope without stopping.
Literacy:
Choose 1 activity to complete.
Pick an object that is near you. Say the word out loud. Can you identify the beginning sound of the word?

Read a book with a family member. Name the characters in the story.

Complete a tracing sheet.
|
Pick a letter card. Make the letter out of playdough.
|
Say a word. Name as many words that rhyme as you can.
|
Read a story with a family member. How were the characters feeling? How do you know? |
Rip paper into tiny pieces. Make your full name with the pieces.

Name every person in your family. Can you figure out what letter they start with? Write it down. |
Go on a scavenger hunt in your home. See what letters you can find and write them on paper.

Make a grocery list by drawing the pictures of items you need. Try to sound out the letter the food items begin with.

Read a story about a special place (beach, forest, jungle). Name the objects, and place you read about. |
Write letters in a bowl filled with soapy water. |
Use a basket to collect objects that all begin with the same sound.

Look through old magazines/newspapers to find and cut out the letters for your family member's names. |
Make up a story and draw a picture about it.

Mathematics:
Choose 1 activity to complete.
Look around your home. Make a tally mark for each picture you find indoor home (door knob, mirror, pillow, etc).

Count with a partner. You say a a number and they say the next number. |
Put a puzzle together with a family member. |
How many shoes can you count in your home? Who has the most shoes? Least shoes? |
Make a pattern with food or toys. |
Go on a nature walk. Record how many times you hear a certain sound (car, dog bark, bird chirp)

Play the memory game with a family member. |
Find 10 rocks. Sort the rocks by size. Sort the rocks by color. |
.Take an ice cube out of your freezer. Measure the size of the cube as it melts on a napkin! |
Pick a shape card. Make that shape out of playdough. |
Have a family member fill up a jar with food or toys. Make a prediction of how many are inside and then count them!

Have a family member draw shapes on paper. Trace them. Then try to draw them yourself.

Have a family member hide some number cards around your home. See if you can find all the number cards that are hidden and name them.

How many items you can find in your house that have pairs ( 2 of the same item). |
Find 10 stuffed animals in your home. Order them from biggest to smallest.

Art/Sensory :
Homemade Watercolors
Place a marker in a cup of water. Paint with the watercolors.

Bracelets
String beads or cut up straws on pipe cleaners or string.
|
Cutting Bin
Make a cutting bin. Place strips of paper and ribbon in the bin and cut into tiny pieces (Make a collage later with pieces)

Giant Self Portrait
Get a big piece of paper or tape smaller papers together to trace body on paper and color.
|
Car/Doll Wash
Place water and soap in a plastic toy or bathtub. Add soap, sponges, and toothbrushes.
|
Sensory Bag
Put hair gel and paint/food coloring in a Ziploc bag and tape shut.
|
Bead or Straw Towers
Place spaghetti noodles or skewers in playdough. Place beads or cut up straws on the noodles. (cheerios work too)

Blowing Paint
Water down some paint (or other colored liquid). Drip the paint on paper and blow with a straw.
|
Mask Paper Plate
Cut holes for the eyes and mouth. Decorate with paint, markers, stickers, or paper.

Shaving Cream Art
Draw in shaving cream. Place it in a plastic tub, tray or do it in the bathtub.

Frozen Paint
Put paint in a ice cub tray with a stick in each cube. Paint with cube once frozen.

Cereal Necklace
Make a necklace with cereal then eat it as a snack
|
Foil Art
Paint or draw with sharpies on foil.
|
Play Dough Cookies
Make pretend cookies with play dough. Put out a rolling pin, cookie cutters, and scissors
|
Noodle Sensory Bin
Place dry noodles in a sensory bin. Add measuring cups, tongs, and small toys.

Observational Drawing (Draw what you see outside, your favorite toy, favorite food, by observing it in real time)
